Transfers: Latest news, rumours and gossip for Man Utd in 2015 – United, Chelsea and Man City are ALL attempting to persuade Messi to join them

Could it be true, or could it be clickbait? Who knows?! But The Sun’s back page will certainly prick up the ears of all Man Utd fans, especially when they see headlines like ‘Exclusive: Let’s Get Messi’.

Yes, that’s right, with January but two months away, the silly season is starting up anew. We are told that United, Chelsea and Man City are ALL attempting to persuade Lionel Messi to join them.

And…. wait for it…. the Barcelona star has apparently ‘given the clearest hint yet he is ready to listen’. The Sun reveals that informal approaches to Team Messi have been made, with one of the Premier League’s big three making contact twice in the last week.

This, we are told, is because while all previous approaches have been rebuffed the clubs have been given surprising encouragement this time, leaving them to believe he might be ready to quit the Nou Camp at the end of next season. (It could have somehting to do with his increasing anger with the Spanish tax authorities, who are making him stand trial for alledge tax fraud.)

The Sun adds that Messi’s current deal has a €250 million buy-out clause, making any move this summer impossible. However, by June 2017 he will have just one year left on his contract and Barca, it seems, may be willing to part ways.

And pigs might fly!

Athletic Bilbao have told United and Chelsea they will have to pay £35 million if they want 21-year-old defender Aymeric Laporte.

The young French defender has apparently been on the Premier League duo’s radar for some time after breaking through at Athletic. And his performances in La Liga have also interested Barcelona.

However, El Correo suggests Bilbao will not consider an offer below his buyout fee and have told Chelsea and United to stump up the cash if they want their man.

And finally (and it’s bad news for United), bookmakers have made Chelsea the favourites to seal the transfer of Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani.

The bookies believe that the Uruguayan would favour a move to Stamford Bridge ahead of Arsenal and Manchester United. Or at least that’s what The Metro says.
