The 57-year-old said Reigns should fired if his fortunes don’t start changing – or at least his character should become a bad guy.

Reigns has been positioned as WWE’s most popular star since 2015 despite receiving lukewarm reactions from fans.

Entire WWE shows have been derailed by fans furiously booing the Big Dog.

Fulton was a popular star as a singles act in the 70s and early 80s before forming The Fantastic tag-team with Tommy Rogers in 1984.

They competed across the US and remained a popular act until they disbanded in 2007.

WWE also briefly featured Fulton in his later years as part of their promotion of the new title belt the Light Heavyweight Championship.

He has since been scathing about modern wrestling, and has been particularly critical of Reigns.

Fulton said: “If he can’t get over as a babyface and the people are booing him, fire him.

“Get rid of him or turn him heel. He’s not getting the job done – it is plain and simple.

“They gotta make a change somewhere.

“People just ain’t buying Roman Reigns.”

Reigns’s rejection by WWE fans has been the subject of countless articles and interviews.

Boos and jeers shower the 6ft 3in 265lb star nearly every time he appears on television.

And despite this, he is a three-time world champion, and has equalled Hulk Hogan’s record of four consecutive main events at WrestleMania.

WWE have steamed ahead with him as their top star despite this controversy however – positioning him as the “face of the company”.

Reigns’ has been criticised for his character work, and even WWE legend Stone Cold Steve Austin said he needs to make a change.

WWE fans have also been unhappy with the way the programming is entirely built around him.

Reigns does remain popular with younger sections of the fanbase thanks to his near-invincible goody-goody persona.

Fans reacted so badly to Reigns match against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34 that WWE boss Vince McMahon changed the finish to have the UFC fighter win.
