WWE superstar Bret Hart lashed out at his late brother’s widow accusing her of trying to destroy his legacy. Bret said Martha Hart, who was married to his brother Owen Hart, has separated herself from the WWE. Bret was also upset that Owen, who was also a wrestling legend, has not been inducted into the WWE’s Hall of Fame.

‘I think Martha Hart, Owen’s widow, she’s a very obtuse, square-headed person,’ Bret said during an appearance on CBS Sports’ In The Corner podcast.

‘I think she’s done more to erase my brother Owen’s memory that she ever did to remember him.’

Owen died in May 1999 during a WWE pay-per-view match when he fell 78 feet to his death while being lowered into the ring from the rafters at Kemper Area in Kansas City. He was 34 years old.

Bret, who was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2006, said it bothers him that Owen has never been inducted into the Hall of Fame so fans can remember him, and partially blames Martha for why it has not happened.

‘You do these kinds of things for people (who) are here, left to remember them,’ he said. ‘I mean Owen, it would never matter to him if he was in the Hall of Fame, but I think that you know it would mean a lot to different family members in my family.’

He added: ‘I know (wrestler) Mark Henry, as an example, gave a strong speech or talk this year about getting Owen into the Hall of Fame and I totally agree.’

During an April ceremony inducting Henry and other wrestlers into the Hall of Fame, Henry pleaded with Martha to put her differences with the company aside and let Owen be inducted.

‘This is not from other wrestlers,’ he said, getting emotional. ‘This is from his other brother. He needs to be here. And I hate that I haven’t kept up like I should have.’

Since Owen’s death, Martha has been at odds with the company because she blames them for his untimely death. In 2010, she sued the WWE for using Owen’s image and likeness. They reached a settlement before the case went to trial.
