“I want to start off by saying I made a pretty stupid mistake this weekend,” Jones said, via Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal. “Right now my main focus is on becoming the best player I can be and helping the team and focusing on Kansas City.”
The Boston Herald first reported that Jones was rushed to Norwood Hospital after showing up at the Foxborough, Massachusetts, police station with a medical emergency.
Police communications indicated that Jones was on the influence of a “class D” substance when he showed up at the nearby police station. While speculation has swirled in Boston, the Patriots, Jones nor police have not confirmed the exact nature of the medical issue.
According to a police report obtained by the Boston Globe on Thursday, a shirtless Jones got down on his knees behind the Foxborough police station Sunday morning and appeared to be “actively praying or worshipping” as officers approached him. Jones was respectful and cooperative with police, according to the report, and was eventually taken to the hospital.
The pass rusher did not miss any practice time due to the situation.
Jones declined to detail any substances he took or his interaction with police. The defensive end said he’s only concentrating on Saturday’s playoff tilt.
“I apologize to all the fans and everyone I support, but this weekend… I’m focusing on having probably the biggest game of my life and try to just clear this,” he said. “Like I said, I made a stupid mistake, and hopefully it can just blow by.”
