Kurt Angle Refused A Beer From Steve Austin – “You Messed Up Big Time”

Throughout the Attitude Era, Kurt Angle and Steve Austin engaged in many wars over the WWF Championship. After such matches, it was common for the Texas Rattlesnake to discuss the night’s events over a beer according to Angle who was speaking on The Kurt Angle Show [available early and ad-free at AdFreeShows.com].

Kurt Angle explained how on one occasion he refused Austin’s offer of a beer and was quite quickly sent back to accept Stone Cold’s offer by Shane McMahon: “For the most part, everybody else, they would just say thank you for the match, give you a hug, and that’s it. But Austin wanted to sit down, have a beer and talk about it for half an hour.”

“You know what? The one time I refused a beer, and Shane McMahon came up to me and said, ‘hey, go back in there and accept that beer and sit down and talk to Stone Cold.’ I was like, ‘Holy crap, did I mess up?’ He said, ‘You messed up big time’ [laughs]. Yeah, I had to drink the beer!” Angle continued by saying how much Austin loved the debriefs as he was trying to make himself better every time he got in the ring:

“Yeah, [Austin] loved that. He wanted to talk about it. He wanted to get better. He wanted to improve on that match and make it better the next time we wrestled. So, he always wanted to have a meeting afterward and talk about it in detail. That’s what made him so good. That’s what made him such a professional.”
