Main Reason Behind Gunther’s Impromptu In-Ring Break

WWE Intercontinental Champion Gunter recently made a surprise announcement on WWE Raw, revealing his intention to take some time off following his victory over The Miz on the December 18 episode.

In a backstage corner, Gunther criticized Imperium teammates Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci for not living up to expectations, and urged them to stay on RAW to grow.

The reason for Gunther’s hiatus was confirmed by Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter: Gunther’s wife, Ginny, a former professional wrestler, gave birth to a son on December 27, 2023.

Gunther had also announced the happy news on social media.

As of this writing, Gunther has held his WWE Intercontinental Championship for his 566 days, cementing his reign as one of the longest reigns in recent history.

Triple H praised Gunter and said he continues to improve every day.

Gunther initially made a name for himself as the longest-reigning WWE British Champion before moving to NXT in January 2022.

He made his main roster debut in April of that year, winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the June 10 episode of SmackDown.

Meanwhile, his wife Ginny has had a successful career in wrestling, and she was previously signed to WWE, where she played a key role in NXT on the UK brand.

She officially retired from wrestling in January 2023.
