Sting with micSting announced his retirement from professional wrestling four years ago, but as you may recall, he added “See you later” at the end of his WWE Hall of Fame induction speech.

Four years later, and those words may be ringing true.

Sting speak

According to PWInsider.com (h/t Andrew Ravens of Wrestling News), there has “been a lot of talk” about Sting playing a big role in the upcoming WWE events. Not only that, but PWInsider noted that Sting could even come back to wrestle “one more match.”

Some are now speculating if we’ll see Sting as a surprise entry in next 30-man Royal Rumble match. There are a handful of spots open, and other big names like Edge, Undertaker, John Cena and CM Punk have popped up in the rumor mill as well.

But whether or not WWE is actually planning to bring Sting back for another match is another story.

At the very least, he could appear in the Royal Rumble without taking a serious bump, and he could appear in a non-wrestling capacity, something Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair did for the last Saudi Arabia event (Crown Jewel on Oct. 31).

Sting debuted for WWE at the 2014 Survivor Series pay-per-view. The Vigilante wrestled his first match for the company at WrestleMania 31, where he fell to Triple H in a memorable bout that featured the reunions of D-Generation X and the New World Order.

But Sting’s in-ring career came to an abrupt end several months later.

He suffered a neck injury during a match with Seth Rollins at Night of Champions 2015, and it turned out to be his final match, with Sting retiring at his Hall of Fame ceremony.

KEEP YOUR HOPES MINIMAL FOR STING’S RETURN
It was reported last July that WWE has no intentions to clear Sting for a return. He’s 60 years of age, and Sting hasn’t wrestled since 2015.

Would WWE really push to bring him back for one more match here in 2020? We’ll just have to wait and see, but fans shouldn’t get their hopes up too high. It’s a long shot to happen.
