Vice President, Yemi Osinabjo stated in Abuja that, President Buhari was in difficulties over the increase in the price of premium motor spirit.

Osinabjo defending the president amid the reaction of angry feelings among the Nigerians caused by the all-time extreme increase, while he also said that though the president was not happy with the new price firstly but he had no choice than to accept the change.

Furthermore he said that, the decision was necessary if the country must source for foreign exchange to import fuel. The Vice President said that even if the local refineries were brought back to life, the country would still need to import product as they would only run at 40 percent capacity.

Osinbajo stated this in Abuja at the public presentation of a book titled “Anatomy of Corruption in Nigeria. Issues, Challenges and Solutions, a collection of essays” was edited by a well-known lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Mr. Yusuf Ali. This is not the first time, the office of the Vice President would be exonerating the president from the hike.
