WWE has officially released backstage interviewer Dasha Fuentes; wrestlingnewsplus.com can report authoritatively.
The announcer is “off on new adventures”…
Pro Wrestling Sheet are reporting that WWE backstage interviewer and personality Dasha Fuentes has been released from contract this week.
Fuentes was apparently informed of the decision after WrestleMania 35. She was in the New York area for personal appearances and for ‘Mania itself, but her last televised appearance happened on the go-home episode of Raw before the biggest show of the year.
When she landed in the ‘Big Apple’ for WrestleMania festivities, Fuentes mainly worked the anti-bullying rally at Brooklyn’s Navy Yard Boys & Girls Club on Monday afternoon.
Dasha became the counterpoint to Raw’s Charly Caruso on SmackDown after the WWE Draft back in 2016. Before that, she had worked as a backstage announcer and ring announcer for NXT. Now, according to posts on her personal Instagram page, Fuentes is excited to be on vacation in the Dominican Republic and says she’ll soon be “off on new adventures”.
It’s interesting to note that her official WWE.com profile is no longer on the website. That suggests she has indeed been released. It’s also worth mentioning that she’s recently been replaced on Tuesday nights by the blonde-haired Sarah Schreiber.
SEVEN OTHER SUPERSTARS LEAVING THE COMPANY THIS WEEK
WWE fans have become accustomed to WrestleMania 35 becoming a changing of the guard.
Each and every year, the buildup to WWE’s flagship pay-per-view is highlighted by the return of several marquee stars, some from the past and some who are with the company full-time.
This year, WWE has brought back popular acts like Kevin Owens on the road to WrestleMania 35, and though he will stick around for the long haul, many of the other stars who have recently returned to WWE will be gone from the company following the pay-per-view.
Likewise, WWE finds itself in an interesting spot with many of its full-time stars: Contracts are expiring, and the rise of non-WWE promotions has drastically changed the pro wrestling landscape in a way that has ensured WWE is no longer the only option for WWE stars to make a quality living. That means that some of WWE’s biggest and best stars who are here today will be gone tomorrow.
Here are major stars who could leave WWE after WrestleMania 35.
The Revival
The Revival requested its WWE release earlier this year, and though the talented duo has since become Raw Tag Team Champions, the booking of them on TV hasn’t changed much.
While WWE demonstrated with its massive financial offer to Dean Ambrose that it will shell out big bucks to prevent young, well-rounded stars from leaving, The Revival find themselves in a rather interesting position: They’re holding titles, but they aren’t being booked like they should be and apparently won’t even get a WrestleMania match. Meanwhile, rumors continue to float that Vince McMahon could break them up after Mania as a way of sending a stern message to a duo that appears to be unhappy in WWE, which you know if you follow either Dash Wilder or Scott Dawson on Twitter.
It would undoubtedly be a big blow to WWE’s already thin tag team division for The Revival to leave, despite the fact that they haven’t been pushed all that well. The thing about The Revival is that they’d fit incredibly well in just about every other major wrestling company, including New Japan Pro-Wrestling and All Elite Wrestling, where tantalizing matchups with The Young Bucks and The Lucha Brothers would await.
WWE hasn’t indicated that it has any intention of remaining committed to giving the tag team division a serious push in the long term, so The Revival, whose contracts expire next year, could depart sooner than expected, much like Tye Dillinger and Hideo Itami recently did.
Chances of Leaving: Questionable
Brock Lesnar WWE Release
It’s a constant guessing game with Brock Lesnar: Will he stay, or will he go?
Of course, it feels like a case of de ja vu as Lesnar was in this exact same situation at WrestleMania 34 last year when he ultimately re-signed with WWE, retained his Universal title and held it all the way until SummerSlam in August 2018. Barring something unforeseen happening, that is exactly what will happen this year. Even though Lesnar’s contract apparently expires at WrestleMania 35, WWE demonstrated with its huge Crown Jewel contract for Lesnar that there are virtually no limits on how much money WWE is willing to throw his way to prevent him from leaving.
Even though Lesnar continues to flirt with a return to UFC and UFC president Dana White says that it will happen, this is, more likely than not, a classic case of Lesnar teasing an MMA comeback so that WWE will back up the Brinks truck to convince him to stay. At this point, Lesnar is making a ton of money for one of the easiest schedules in WWE, and he’s the Universal Champion.
Why on earth would he leave?
Chances of Leaving: Doubtful
Shinsuke Nakamura
Shinsuke Nakamura’s WWE contract expires at some point later this year, and NJPW is reportedly interested in bringing him back, though it’s not exactly clear how interested Nakamura is in returning to his home country.
While Nakamura has moved his entire family to the United States, you have to wonder how satisfied he is with the way he’s been booked since debuting on the main roster nearly two years. After all, he has gradually fallen down the card over the course of that two-year period, going from WWE title contender and Royal Rumble winner to completely forgotten United States Champion to tag team wrestler who hasn’t had a worthwhile storyline in half a year.
Nakamura’s main roster run has been highlighted by a series of creative misses, including his ill-advised heel turn, his consistent losing ways and his failures to be constantly featured in storylines on SmackDown. At nearly 40 years old, Nakamura is closer to the back end of his prime, and it sure feels like it’s been even longer than three years since he turned heads with a five-star debut against Sami Zayn at NXT TakeOver.
At least traditionally, WWE has has shied away from pushing stars who are on their way out, and judging by the way Nakamura has not been pushed for some time now, his departure wouldn’t be a huge shocker.
Chances of Leaving: Questionable
Ronda Rousey WWE Release
As most fans know by now, Ronda Rousey is expected to leave WWE after WrestleMania 35, likely just temporarily but possibly for good.
While Rousey has had an unbelievable rookie year in WWE, she demonstrated during her time in UFC that when the going gets tough she will leave if that’s what she wants to do. As much as Rousey’s heel character has played up the fact that she doesn’t care about the WWE Universe, it’s obvious from her responses to less than favorable crowd reactions that she has undoubtedly been affected by the notoriously harsh WWE fans turning against her.
Whether that causes her to leave WWE permanently is debatable, but at the very least, she will probably take a brief hiatus from WWE at some point after WrestleMania 35. That may come immediately after the pay-per-view, in which case fans should expect Rousey to drop the Raw Women’s Championship to Becky Lynch. However, it could come a month or two later, which would likely result in Rousey pinning Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania and then dropping both women’s title to Lynch at a post-Mania pay-per-view.
WrestleMania 35 will be really telling in that regard, but barring something unforeseen happening, Rousey will be gone way or the other following WWE’s flagship pay-per-view.
Chances of Leaving: Probable
# Dana Brooke WWE Release
Dana Brooke is a former fitness model and bodybuilder who must have seemed like the perfect fit for the role of a WWE Diva.
Unfortunately, she came into the WWE about the same time as less of an emphasis was being put on women’s looks and more on their wrestling ability. The women’s evolution has meant that now it takes in ring talent to truly be pushed to a prominent role in the company.
Pro wrestling is a very hard entertainment form to perform. It requires not just athletic ability, which Dana Brooke obviously possesses, but also an ability to synchronize your movements with your fellow performers in a way that even professional dance troupes would find difficult. While Dana has the look of a superstar, she has never really gelled in the ring with her opponents.
They tried to transition her into a manager/valet role, but she doesn’t have the charisma of someone like Paul Heyman or Zeb Colter. Her role with Titus Worldwide has been considered underwhelming.
From Another Angle, We Dare Say: Dana Brooke has been overlooked on the main roster ever since she was promoted, and once again the former NXT star has been forgotten in the Women’s Division on Monday Night Raw.
Brooke took to Social Media earlier this year when she was left off the Royal Rumble poster, being the only female talent on the main roster who didn’t make the cut. Just a month later, she was forgotten when it came to the first ever Women’s Elimination Chamber match, another match that Brooke was unable to lend her skill set too, which led to her once again calling out the company.
Over the past year, she has been seen as Titus Worldwide’s statistician rather than an in-ring performer, but now that she’s back as a full-time performer, she has been overlooked once again.
Dana Brooke recently took to Instagram to comment on the fact that she has been forgotten off the TLC poster, being the only member of the Raw Women’s Division who has been left off the design.
In order to make things easy for Dana Brooke, the WWE officials are working to release her along side some other stars as we have already detailed.
Why she might be released soon: Dana Brooke has struggled to get her in ring performance on a par with her appearance and potential. Her lack of major status or career accolades don’t help her much, either.
What she might do if she gets her release: A journey to Impact, Ring of Honor, or Japan seems unlikely, due to her lack of wrestling skill. She could, however, easily return to the world of modelling.
Chances of Leaving: Probable
Alicia Fox WWE Release
Alica Fox showed up intoxicated to a WWE live event and Arn Anderson let her wrestle anyway. However, only Arn Anderson was fired for this offense.
The internet is not liking that at all and they are coming out about the subject in a big way.
The fine folks on Reddit have been sounding off about this story. A majority of people don’t have very nice things to say either. If you would like to see the entire thread, you can get that Reddit goodness here. Otherwise, here are some immediate reactions to the story.
“I agree, but how does Fox still have a job then?”
“Well she hasn’t wrestled in nearly a month, the WWE equivalent of semi-unpayed leave. They’re probably weighing their options or are working with her somehow.”
“100% she should be fired. She showed up and put a co-workers life at risk, and that’d get you fired from pretty much any other job, so WWE really shouldn’t be any different.”
“To be fair to Arn, how can anyone tell if Alicia Fox is drunk or sober?”
Chances of Leaving: Centainly
Mickie James WWE Release
Mickie James is a former five-time WWE Women’s Champion, she is also a former Divas Champion and was once considered to be the future of WWE’s Women’s Division when Trish Stratus passed the torch to her at WrestleMania 22.
Just four years later, Mickie was released by WWE and made the switch over to TNA, before she returned to WWE a few years ago after.
It was later announced on WWE’s website that Mickie along with Katie Lea Burchill, Shelton Benjamin, Kung Fu Naki, Slam Master J and Jimmy Wang Yang were all released from their WWE contracts.
The current situation with James is that she’s not winning many matches, which means that she didn’t put over those stars who have beaten her. The motive of her return to WWE was to make other superstars rise in the game by putting them over her.
So WWE may let her go as she would do the company much hurt.
