Chris Benoit murdered his wife Nancy and seven year old son Daniel in 2007. The police ruled the tragedy a double murder-suicide, but some people still held onto conspiracy theories. David Benoit said for a long period of time he refused to believe that his father actually committed the crime.

Kevin Sullivan was cleared after the police investigated him, but that didn’t make the situation any easier to believe.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, David Benoit said that police investigated the possibility of Kevin Sullivan doing anything in this situation. Sullivan was cleared, but that didn’t make the situation any easier to believe.

“Conspiracy theories are just a joke. Kevin Sullivan didn’t do anything, you know? We looked into that and never had the police look into him, so yeah. I didn’t want to believe it.

I thought someone broke into the house or some sh*t and did it, but apparently there was a scuffle at the door. That’s what I heard.”

There are some that believe the 2007 double murder-suicide that took the lives of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy, and their young son, Daniel, was too reprehensible to have been committed by Chris and have formulated conspiracy theories in an effort to clear Chris’ name. Benoit‘s eldest son, David, says those conspiracy theories are nothing but jokes.

“I thought it was a joke. I really did. I really thought it was a joke. I just didn’t believe it for days. I think the day it really hit me was his funeral. That was a hard day. I was a super hard. I laid him to rest,” David began.

In regards to a conspiracy theory suggesting that former WCW booker, Kevin Sullivan, was the actual perpetrator of the crime, David is very clear that he and his family looked into that possibility and that Kevin had absolutely nothing to do with what happened that night.

“Conspiracy theories are just a joke. Just a joke,” David proclaimed. “Kevin Sullivan didn’t do anything. We looked into that. We had the police look into him.”

Kevin Sullivan was the ex-husband of Nancy Benoit and had competed in a long-standing feud with Chris Benoit in WCW. The feud spanned the course of the latter half of 1996 and the beginning of 1997.

Nancy, known on-screen as Woman, would actually leave Sullivan for Benoit following the storyline, leaving some to formulate the conspiracy theory with the basis that Sullivan held a serious grudge held against Chris due to the end of his marriage with Nancy.

David would go on to say he needed seven months to reflect on what happened and read the official police report in order to make peace with what occurred.

“It took me seven months. Just sitting there thinking. I thought about it every day. You know, why couldn’t he leave a note or called me? I would have flown down,” Dave pondered.

“It’s not easier [to deal with now,] but, you know, I can deal with it. I’m more educated about it. My mom told me some things. And I got a police report. It was a big one. It’s a good 300 pages from start to finish.”

Since his death, Chris Benoit has been blacklisted by WWE, with his matches being shown on the WWE Network without any reference to him in any promotional material or time stamps, something David Benoit hopes to one day overturn.
