Lawsuit Against WWE And AEW Over Plagiarism Recalled

WWE has faced various legal issues over the years, but the problems don’t stop there.

The legal issue has now been refiled as it does not appear to have been fully resolved.

PW Insider reported that the lawsuit against WWE and AEW, which was originally dismissed in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio in Youngstown on November 3, 2023, was re-filed by Anthony Duane Wilson on January 10.

The new lawsuit mirrors the original and accuses both companies of “plagiarism, harm to the marketplace, harm to products, personal injury, and monetary damages.”

Wilson claims that WWE and its contractors used his creations without permission and infringed on his wrestling gimmick, name, slogan, and likeness.

These allegations include AEW, who he hopes will take action. In the lawsuit, Wilson claims that WWE and AEW are still using his infringing works without providing credit or proper compensation. He claims these actions caused market, product, personal, and financial harm that affected his career and reputation.

Wilson is demanding control of AEW, removal of the stolen works, a public apology and financial compensation for the damage caused.

The initial dismissal was because none of the defendants were served within 90 days of filing the case in August 2023.

The dismissal was without prejudice and allowed Wilson to refile the lawsuit.
Now he has refiled the case to try again.
We’ll have to see if he succeeds.
