The Belgian plays a low cross towards the giant Ivorian who misses the ball but lands at the feet of Bony. City’s No 14 tries a first-time shot with his left foot but it is easily saved by Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico.

8 mins: From the outset it would seem that this would be the game that City finally line-up with a five-man midfield, yet that doesn’t seem to the be the case. Sterling is playing alongside Bony up front at present in a 4-4-2 formation with Jesus Navas and Kevin De Bruyne occupying the flanks.

Pellegrini has been criticised for playing this formation in Europe, but he is sticking with his guns.
