Retirements in wrestling are rarely written in stone. In many cases, they’re not even written in ink.

There have been many examples of someone having a retirement match only to go back on their word and wrestle again for that promotion or another. It’s happened to many WWE stars in the past, but Shawn Michaels was one of those guys who kept his word despite the WWE Universe begging him for just one more match.

The Heartbreak Kid hasn’t wrestled since losing his retirement match to The Undertaker at Wrestlemania 26. It’s been over six years, but the WWE Universe still wants to see him have one more match. Obviously, Wrestlemania would be the ideal situation for “Mr. Wrestlemania” to return to the ring if he was ever going to do so. However, it’s not just about finding the right place, finding the right opponent is just as important.

Recently, it was announced that WWE would be holding the WWE Royal Rumble PPV in San Antonio for the first time in 20 years. The expectation is that it will be the biggest WWE Royal Rumble PPV in the WWE history. Needless to say, WWE has huge plans for the PPV. Stone Cold, Undertaker, and others have been rumored for appearances, but WWE could have even bigger plans for Shawn Michaels at the event.

A possible return match for Shawn Michaels has been rumored several times over the past six years with many situations seeming to be the right one. For Wrestlemania 32, there were rumors about HBK coming out of retirement or having a bigger role on the show. Of course, he made an appearance alongside Mick Foley and Stone Cold, but a full program on WWE TV and a match would need to be the perfect situation.

A new report may have presented the perfect situation for a Shawn Michaels return to the WWE ring. It is being reported that WWE officials are trying to convince HBK to come out of retirement for one more match at next year’s WWE Royal Rumble in San Antonio against AJ Styles. This could set to be another huge return in history. What do you think?
