WWE is hurtling towards the Brand Split, which in the past has produced some of the most entertaining segments ever. And if you look back, the General Managers of both Raw and SmackDown have played a key role during the draft episodes in emphasizing the rivalry between both the brands.
But that may not be the case this time around.
Michael Cole stated during this week’s episode of Raw, that the officials who will be charged with running Raw and SmackDown will henceforth be referred to Chief Operating Officers or COO in short, once the brand split commences.
This will likely mean that the designation of General Manager would be retired. It is worth mentioning here that some of pro-wrestlings biggest names,Paul Heyman, Eric Bischoff, and Mick Foley, to name a few, have all been featured on WWE programming as General Managers before.
Retiring the post and replacing it with a much more corporate-sounding title could have been so as to accommodate Shane and Stephanie at the helm of either brand, and to also ensure that they don’t have to be present each week as a regular character.
