WWE icon Kurt Angle thanked a hero beach-goer for saving his son Joseph from drowning, admitting “my ass can’t swim”. A young man named Jake Schmidt saved Angle’s son — this life-threatening event took place at Lake Erie.

The wrestling legend took to Instagram to thank a man called Jake Schmidt for his brave actions at Lake Erie in the USA.

The 51-year-old wrote posted a picture of him alongside the smiling hero who stood in red trunks with wet hair.

Angle uploaded the image alongside a caption that read: “Thank you Jake Schmidt for saving my son Joseph’s life today at the beach.

“You’re a hero man… because my ass can’t swim.. #itstrue #lakeerie.”

Lake Erie is one of the five Great Lakes in the United States and is the eleventh largest in the world.

It traverses the international border between the US and Canada.

WWE Hall-of-Famer Angle adopted Joseph from Bulgaria last October and posted a celebratory shot alongside his wife Giovanna Yannotti at the time.

He wrote: “After 15 long months of paperwork, phone calls and visits, we are finally bringing our adopted son home from Bulgaria. #welcomehomejoseph.”

The latest near-drowning incident comes after former WWE star Shad Gaspar died aged 39 in May.

Gaspard had gone missing after he and his son were caught in a rip current while swimming in the sea at Venice Beach, California on Sunday afternoon.

When help arrived, the American heroically told lifeguards to save his son first, before being submerged by another wave.

The search for the popular missing star was called off, when the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that his body had been found.
