John Cena and Nikki Bella are officially over, after wrestling with the decision for months, .

“After I called off the engagement, we tried to work on our relationship to get back to where it was, and in order to move forward with our wedding. After much time and soul-searching alone and together, we have decided to officially part ways,” Bella, 34, told People in a statement on Monday night. “I had a beautiful and loving six-year relationship with a wonderful man. I have the utmost respect for John, but I know this is what’s best for me.”

The couple famously called off their engagement in April just weeks before they were set to tie the knot.

Since the split, Cena, 41, has made several extremely public efforts to win Bella back, including a heartfelt “Today” show appeal.

Bella previously revealed that she and Cena clashed over whether to have children, an argument that grew more frequent after her twin sister, fellow WWE star Brie Bella, had daughter Birdie.

In May, Nikki hinted that she may have lost herself in her relationship with Cena.

“I felt so much pressure from the cameras, the world, my family, John, and I think I started taking care of everyone and forgot about me,” she said. “That’s what caused me, I don’t know — I don’t want to say ‘snapped,’ I don’t want to say ‘a breakdown,’ but something like that.”

As recently as June, Brie claimed that Nikki Bella and John Cena were trying to iron out their issues.

“There’s just so much they have to figure out with each other — like, talk about two people who are so career-driven,” Brie said. “Marriage makes you really take a step back and be like, ‘Wait a second. Are we ready for this?’ Because it’s a big step, and they’re not the types to just get married and then divorced ’cause it doesn’t work. They want it forever, and they really have to think about that. So they’re talking. They’re trying to work it out.”

The “Blockers” star even offered to reverse his vasectomy in an effort to make the relationship work, but to no avail.

Cena hasn’t officially commented on the split, but tweeted Monday night, “If you can learn something from your experiences, good and bad, you will live with little to no regret.”
