Leading into last Monday’s episode of Raw, Becky Lynch did not appear on SmackDown’s weekend live events.

It was done to sell the knee injury she sustained in-story while losing to Asuka and winning the Royal Rumble at the Jan. 27 pay-per-view (PPV) of the same name. And it was done despite The Man being advertised for those shows.

While the company always has the “card subject to change” disclaimer to fall back on, they’ve been taken to task lately for knowingly switching up the line-ups between advertising and execution.

Though it’s difficult to prove anyone on the roster outside of John Cena & Brock Lesnar are a draw by themselves these days, you can probably see why some fans might have bought a ticket to see one of the performers WWE says is main eventing WrestleMania 35. And why those fans would be disappointed Lynch wasn’t there.

With a never-ending schedule of house shows ahead and the Feb. 4 Raw not only playing up Becky’s injury but kayfabe suspending her for refusing to see a WWE doctor about it, they couldn’t keep a healthy, popular performer on the bench for another weekend. So what did they do?

By using her crutch to bust up a match between SmackDown Women’s champ Asuka and Charlotte Flair on Saturday night in DeKalb, Illinois:

The Man is intent on not letting Asuka defend her SmackDown Women’s title, it seems. Actually, she may just be targeting rumored WrestleMania third wheel Flair, who was only reportedly replaced in the Fort Wayne match by Deville when weather issues kept her from making the show.

The champ and whoever she faces in Canton, Ohio tonight should be safe, because Becky will be on Raw. Will the chaos she sewed over the weekend be addressed when she meets with the McMahons? Was Chekov’s crutch introduced to foreshadow how the Badlass will attack whichever authority figure or figures she assaults in Grand Rapids, Michigan?
